This mixed-use scheme combines the conversion of the upper floors of a five-storey, Grade II Listed, former warehouse building into eleven apartments, with the adaption and extension of the ground floor for retail use by Majestic Wine Warehouse. The new-build element was designed as a respectful addition to the listed building while adopting clearly contemporary design characteristics and materials. It offers a significant and striking visual presence along Broughton Road but remains deferential to the historical skyline, landform and landscape pattern. It reflects the rhythm and character of the existing and past structures, but does not attempt to imitate the adjoining historic building. A programme of external repair and restoration was undertaken prior to the main contract.
