ORCHID WOOD

This green belt site lies within the Cragg Wood Conservation Area and had been intensively used as an Orchid Farm for over a century by Mansell and Hatcher Nurseries. The scheme for YorPlace comprises two unique family dwellings with associated garages and landscaping, but also incorporates an existing chapel – as an annex to one of the houses – and a Baptist Burial Ground which was spot-listed by English Heritage. The houses are positioned where structures were previously built and are contemporary in appearance, but were constructed using a traditional palette of materials and in a careful and restrained manner. Strips and panels of stone, timber and glass are topped with mono-pitch slabs of metal-edged slate roofs.
